Laparoscopic surgery (also called keyhole surgery) is a minimally invasive surgical technique in which a surgeon operates through small incisions using a thin camera called a laparoscope.
How it works
Small cuts (usually 0.5–1.5 cm) are made in the abdomen.
Carbon dioxide gas is used to gently inflate the abdomen, creating space to work.
A laparoscope (camera) and specialized instruments are inserted through the incisions.
The surgeon views the inside of the body on a monitor and performs the procedure.
